The Game of Go
An ancient strategy game of territory and capture
◆ How to Play
- Black plays first. Players alternate placing stones on intersections.
- Stones of the same color connected orthogonally form a group.
- When a group has no liberties (empty adjacent points), it is captured.
- The goal is to control more territory than your opponent.
- Two consecutive passes end the game.
◆ Beginner Tips
- Control the corners first — they need fewer stones to secure.
- Keep your groups connected for more liberties and safety.
- Think about influence and shape, not just individual stones.
- Atari = a group has only one liberty left. Attack those!
- Passing when nothing useful remains is a valid, wise strategy.
